Report says that Firefox users ignore online ads
A report by Adtech found that 0.11% of Firefox users click on Ads compared to 0.5% of IE users. The difference between the two browsers is mainly result of the default Ad blocking system integrated in firefox which make naviguation better and stop annoying popups.
The company, Adtech, found that during October and November, only 0.11 percent of Firefox users ever clicked on an ad, compared with around 0.5 percent of IE users. The percentage of IE users clicking on ads varied depending on which version of the browser was being used, the company said: from 0.44 percent of version 6.x users to 0.53 percent of version 5.5 users. The survey was based on 1,000 Web sites in Europe that use Adtech's ad server.
People are more likely to click on ads with Internet Explorer by error, most of non technical users think that popups are system message and so they click to see more, but this could have a negative effect on the ads compain because it will generate traffic but of people not interested. In the other side David Hallowell, a Mozilla contributor said :
"Most people I know are more happy with Google's targeted ads--they don't like big banner ads that are totally unrelated to what they're looking for,"
This could be a negative point somehow because the number of Firefox users is growing fastly, but have a very good point is that compains are more targeted and with firefox there won't be people clicking by accident, but they choose to. And this choice will affect on the compain itself for example it generate more sales. A Firefox user is considered more likely to have intentionally clicked on an advertisement.
